My Mobile Office
My name is Karl Jorgensen, I am self employed , I have worked as a cabinetmaker for nearly 34 years in Brisbane Australia. I was born in Denmark in 1951 where I grew up on a farm . we had in the farming community a kind of club called the “4 H club” , H for health, H for heart, H for hands and H for head. when all 4 is in good condition there is no stopping you. you see we had to learn What my Mother would call “survival skills” I learned to cook and to bake a cake, growing your own vegetables, animal husbandry as well and I learned to sew I have made clothe for myself and my kids. I like to create things, and that is why I have decided to make a blog , not only to show people what I can do but to learn from others, you see I think it’s time for a change. I am a very creative person when it comes to woodwork and I want to follow my passion ,but in the past is has been difficult, because it does not generate enough income by just making one thing at a time. But I have one thing that has made my life a lot easier the last 5-6 years , I call it my “mobile office” here is a photo of it.
I is a wooden box the size of a Pilot’s bag , you know the ones they carry on board planes.i has two sides that open , one side has the laptop fixed to it , all i have to do is open up and i am in my office . the other side houses files and the black thing you can see is my mobile printer. there is two small drawers for things like business cards print cartridges , camera etc,etc…
Behind the laptop is room for cords and charger .
I will talk more about it later , but for now I want to see if there is any interest in a product like this , I intend to make another version without the fancy inlay in it to keep the price at a level that anybody could afford to buy it . In the past I have made them one by one, for people that live in mobile homes, caravans or boats. this “mobile office ” has been a great help for me because I used to go out measuring up for a kitchen just taking down a few notes and some measurements only to come home and put the paper on my desk and then what happens is that some more paper gets put on top and you forget about it until the client calls to inquire about his quote . But now I can complete the job in the home , print out a quote and many times I come home with a check for the deposit to start the job .
Ok I could go on but the idea is for me to get out of making Kitchens for a living and do something that is a little easier for me to handle the reason being that my back is no so good anymore , I have to be careful not to lift anything heavy. so again Please leave a comment about the box, tell me what you think .
